Deck staining help

Hey everyone, My fiancee and I just bought our first home. The home has a deck attached to it and is in great condition, but just needs to be stained. My question is, should I wait until spring to stain it or would it be ok to do in the fall? Right now in Wisconsin, it gets pretty chilly in the morning, then warms up later in the day. It does get rather damp in the morning as well so I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea right now and wait until spring. Does it matter? Thanks for your help!
