Pressure/Temp gauge stuck

My Pressure/Temp gauge doesn't work and needs to be replace, but it is hard to take out. Rather than taking a chance on breaking it off. I figure I can just leave it where it is and add a new gauge. I was thinking to remove the 1" elbow where the hot supply riser and the supply manifold join. And replace it with a 1 x 1 x 1/2" Tee with a terminate on one end and add a female fitting to the top of the tee so I can thread in the gauge there. Is that a good location and is this a good idea?
