White powder on bedroom wall (Efflorescence?) and black ring??

So since about February-March, there's been a slight smell in my bedroom. I didn't really recognize until a few weeks ago, which has since then gotten stronger and you can clearly smell it when you enter the room. There is some white powdery stuff on my interior walls which rubs off easily but isn't fluffy (like efflorescence) yet I can't think of what else it can be. I admit I rarely have my windows open (because whenever I do there's like 3 more spiders and a few other insects added to the household :/) and I keep my door closed most of the time. It is only in two corners of my room, one of which has a black ring (or atleast a dark ring) with a lot of the white stuff in the same area and a few small black dots (which also surround my window). Basically, I think these are all related to damp/moisture in the room. To help the smell, I regularly open my window (I deal with the insects in my room now) and leave my door open more often. What is the dark ring, and how do I get rid of the problems? I'd like to try and solve them with homemade/cheap/easy ways first before the professionals come in haha :) Thanks

track lighting switching sections at turn?

Hello I want to be able to switch sections of line voltage track lighting IE track one is on then I can turn track two and then track three and so on. The track is elco brand. I'm assuming that all I need to do is clip the hot wire for the 90 turn and wire either end to a standard switch? I know that the previous section will have to be powered in order for the next section to turn on this way but is an ok way of doing it? thanks Macmanmatty

LG Above range microwave problem out of no where. LMV 1680ST

So basically, I bought this used a year ago and it has been great. 3 days ago my girlfriend put in a bowl of soup, hit cook and after about 6 seconds, the unit popped and lost all power. I checked the breaker (microwave only) in the box down stairs and it was tripped. I swtiched it back on and went up to see the unit was powered again. I set the clock, the vent worked, lights etc... So we selected cook time of 1:54 pressed start cook and the unit immediately went dead again, tripping the breaker. Here I removed the power cord, plugged it in the dinning room with an extension cord and shut everything off in there. Same issue as it tripped the dinning room breaker this time. I then tested a portable microwave on the original microwave receptical and it worked fine. What could my issue be here, I'd really like to keep this unit and dont have a problem replacing a bad part. Where should I begin? Upstairs bathroom drains downstairs and floods room

Hi, My landlord is just difficult:madhell: so she will not help or hire a plumber. Whenever our upstairs toilet is flushed it floods the downstairs space under the water heater, my bathroom is just on the opposite side of the wall in which they share the same pipe line. I can hear like a rush of water flood that little space and then leak into our remodeled bedroom which was a garage, thankfully we have tile and have to mop up the mess. When the shower upstairs is on, it trickles thru the same pipe and leaks the same. Where can the problem be ? what if there is a crack in the pipe and when fixed all the water will shoot out the down stairs toilets, my toilet was filled with water, very close to flooding over. Any ideas ?
