Rebuilding a Jenn-Air stovetop cartridge

Hello ladies and gentlemen My cartridge has parts no longer available - new cartridge is also not available. Mine has 4 spades and a center round posts - newer ones have 3. Jenn-air says they are not compatible - internet folks say they are - so I decided to rewire it. The no longer part I need is a piece of material - and that's my question, what is it? - that sits in between where the spades enter the ceramic block and the little metal frame that holds the whole thing in place when that little frame is screwed into the cartridge. It almost looks like a piece of circuit board, so could I buy a piece, number one, and cut it to go in there? Sound ok?
