baseboard thermal protector coming on

Just moved a baseboard from one side of the room to the other. Extended the wire with a junction box and added a digital thermostat. After about 10 mins of heating, the thermostat shows 'tp' meaning it recognised that the heater activated it's thermal protection. Anything I can do to test what is wrong?
