Wood stove pipe

Is there any safe way to connect single wall pipe to triple wall pipe other than a thimble? A thimble is about $150. Our furnace is about done and we can't afford to replace it. We used a wood stove at another house we had for several years. Still have a stove and single wall pipe. At the other house we had a flue. Can double wall pipe be used through ceiling/attic/roof?
