Door will not unlock when i press button?

Hello guys, I have a three apartment building. On the third flower there is a button switch that when press unlocks the front door of the building. For some reason its not unlocking, the switch it self has a led in it and under normal operating condition that led is always on. Today it was not on, so i was thinking its probably the switch and ended up getting a new switch exactly the same. After replacing the switch it still did not work, it will not unlock the front door. And to make matters worse the second floor apartment unlock swich does not work ether. I am not sure how that effected anything on second floor its a two wire switch, would it matter which lf the two wires is connected to which terminal on the switch itself? Perhaps maybe that has something to do with it? I also ended up removing the switch and it has two wires connected to it. When i removed the wires and made the contact directly bypassing the switch, it was still not unlocking the door. Can you please help me where i should look at troubleshooting this. I know its not the door lech that unlock the door, because the basement button when pressed unlocks the front door. Is there a diagram on how the circuit is set up for the switch operates and unlocks front door, that would help me with troubleshooting this.
