Retrofitting bath exhaust fan

I am remodeling a bathroom and need to replace the exhaust fan and was hoping to not have to patch the ceiling. The current opening is 8"x9". I looked around, but finding that size and retrofitting seems like a tough find. Is this possible or should I just forget about it and get whatever fan I want and deal with the patching?
