seeling the gap between floor and wall

I have hardwood floor over seperated uncovered pine boards ( interspace aprx 25-35 cm) which are mounted on usual screed of cement and sand. So there is some empty space down there and I feel a kind of mixed smell of pine and cement. Not very pleasent reminding the smell of basement. I want to get rid of it and wondering if some kind of seeling (for exp. with silicon hermetic) of the gap between floor and the wall is appropriate solution?
